We’ve had an action-packed week in preparation for what’s going to be a pretty exciting few weeks ahead! So action-packed, in fact, that we haven’t had much time to blog. So, in an effort to wind down a little before the weekend, we thought it might be fun to take a little time to get to know the team behind the missing email API, Context.IO. You’ve seen posts and presos here before from our founder Bruno, so today we’d like to show some love to Dominik Gehl, our Lead Programmer. Dominik has been with the company for 2 years; in fact, he was DokDok’s first official hire! Dominik and Bruno have worked tirelessly over the last year to build what has become Context.IO through numerous iterations and lots of blood, sweat, tears, caffeine and guarana.
We’re getting ready to launch version 2.0 of the API, as well as make some other announcements that will represent major milestones for the company. Thanks to Dominik’s efforts, we’re closer than ever to sharing this news!
Tell us about your background (education, experience, what lead you to DokDok/Context.IO):
After graduating from the Universite de Montreal with a B.Sc. in Mathematics and Compter Science, M.Sc. in Computer science, I worked for several years in bioinformatics and teached introductory computer science courses. I then got into consulting in the domain of large scale email infrastructures and network security before joining the DokDok team in 2009.
What are your preferred coding languages and why?
PHP and Perl: I love the flexibility of interpreted languages.
What do you think about the boom in API availability and usage in recent years?
APIs are a great opportunity for programmers; they make data way easier to access. A big plus for everyone – from CEO to end user, they are paving the way to a completely collaborative web experience.
What upcoming developments on the Context.IO roadmap are you excited about?
Version 2.0 of the API. We’ve integrated popular requests and took the opportunity to clean-up some quirks. Can’t wait to show it to everyone…
Tell us about some of your favorite hobbies:
Coffee (You can find Dominik mastering the espresso machine at RPM on a regular basis), food and reading. Fortunately, I have my morning and evening commute to read since with the two kids at home, time is short for reading!
