by Sarah-Jane on July 12, 2012

Our Startup Festival Scavenger Hunt, co hosted by Twilio, went off wtihout a hitch yesterday and was a ton of fun. Many of you were curious to get the answers to our awesome riddles, so without further ado, here they are!

1- Find the electric buttocks. Have a beer. Take a pic. - 5 points

The answer to this was a pic of the awesome Foufounes Electriques, a punk bar here in Montreal. Bonus points went to Edgar Barba who picked up a t-shirt while he was there!

2 – This commie doctor is kind of a hero in these parts. Make sure you grab his statue a coffee from Timmy’s across the street, snap his pic and say hi to the pigeons.  - 10 points

The answer to this was the statue of the famous Dr. Norman Bethune located on Guy and de Maisonneuve.

3 – Ask any native Montrealer… when returning from travel by train, what is the one sign that reminds them they are home? Stop and smell it. Five times. Then take a pic. - 10 points

We had a few participants struggle with this one. The answer was the Farine Five Roses sign! A native Montrealer’s landmark!

4 -  Where can your find Mahler, Berlioz, Brahms and Honegger under one roof? Snap a pic. - 10 points

The answer to this one was the lovely new hall at the Montreal Symphony Orchestra.

5 – This mug can be found at the former home of Localmind and current home of ContextIO. On it is the logo of a VERY exclusive conference organized by @acroll. Some call it summer camp for geeks. Snap a pic of yourself consuming a tasty beverage from it. - 15 points

This was a BitNorth mug at the RPM Startup Center, of course!

6 – A piece of Berlin history in Montreal - 15 points

Did you know there’s a piece of the Berlin wall in Montreal? Well, there is!

7 – Suspend this guy and get a vintage riot. Find his statue and take a pic.- 15 points

This was the statue of Maurice Richard at the Bell Center.

Here are the 7 other clues and answers that we had locked behind our API challenge:

1 - There is a tradition that continues in Montreal and takes a ton of tourist money and involves an antiquated form of transportation. Find an example of this and take a pic! - 5 points

These are the horrible horse and buggy rides you can find throughout Old Montreal!

2 - Every Sunday, hippies come together in Montreal and hang around someone who once (scandalously) said “an inhabitant of Lower Canada (Quebec) is an Englishman who speaks French”. Snap a pic of his statue! – 10 points

Those who snapped a pic of the Mt. Royal Monument of George-Étienne Cartier, the locus of the Sunday tamtam jam, got this one!

3 - Find this surreal garden overlooking a highway. But try not to take a seat, it’s kinda dangerous up there. - 15 points

This was the sculpture garden across the street from the Canadian Centre for Architecture.

4 - Yellow and blue on the outside… oohs and aahs on the inside. - 10 points

This is right next to Startup Festival… the bigtops over at the Cirque du Soleil!

5 - From base to top, the tallest building in Montreal. - 10 points

This was a bit of a trick question… the tallest building in Montreal from street level to top, is Place Ville Marie, but from basement to top, it’s 1000 de la Gauchetiere.
